Frischi Bike Days in Graubünden’s beautiful valleys

Three days of unadulterated mountain biking, packed with the best trails the Engadin has to offer – guided by Thomas Frischknecht, Team Manager of SCOTT-SRAM MTB Racing and one of mountain biking’s all-time legends. On the agenda for Friday and Saturday are two longer, 3-5 hour tours, followed by a shorter “goodbye” tour on Sunday to bring the trip to a close.

If the weather allows, we’ll do a spectacular sunset ride evening to catch the Engadin in its best light, followed by dinner in a stunning mountain hut looking down the valley.

The tours require medium to good fitness level and technical skills. Expect to explore some of the best singletrack in the Engadin and encounter amazing views of glaciers. We’ll make use of some shuttles for those who don’t want to ride uphill for too long.

Time off the bike is just as important as the riding itself. Besides the trails, there is a lot to explore on the cultural/culinary side. Try one of the typical regional specialties like Capuns while soaking up the atmosphere on the piazza in the picturesque town of Poschiavo.

Program

Whether you take the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) over the UNESCO World Heritage route to the Engadine or reach the valley by car through the countless hairpins of the Julier Pass, the first view of the beautiful upper Engadine valley will take your breath away.

On arrival at the Sporthotel Pontresina, a welcome aperitif will be waiting for you at 18:30, and you’ll quickly realize that our host Alex Pampel not only understands the hospitality business, but is also at home on the Engadine trails. During the apéro, Thomas Frischknecht will give you all the details about the upcoming trail experience in the Engadine to whet your appetite for the days ahead.

Various trails lead to Rome. Just as many trails lead from the Bernina Pass to the southern Val Poschiavo. Uphill to the top of the pass, we’ll ride together as a group up the only single trail. Then the two camps split. For the "rock-garden" lovers, it's over Alp Grüm along the old mule track, descending 1300 meters to Poschiavo. For those who prefer a flow trail, keep to the left of the road leading to the pass.

Finishing on the piazza in Poschiavo, you can enjoy the world's best pizzoccheri and a gelato italiano!

And if you thought that the culinary highlight of the day was the ice cream, prepare your palate for the evening wine tasting in the wine cellar of the Sportshotel Pontresina. As two keen bike and wine aficionados, Frischi and Alex are kindred spirits!

Frischi Bike Days

Our first day on the bike. You might expect a ride over the well-known Suvretta Pass behind the Piz Nair. However, we’ll venture off the beaten track and discover the unknown singletrack around the Statzersee. Good technique will be your ally on the roots. Fortunately, Thomas Frischknecht will be on hand to offer advice and technical training, where needed. In the well-known health resort of St. Moritz and its surrounding villages, there’s 5-star gastronomy on offer, but also cozy mountain huts serving up equally excellent cuisine, which we will enjoy at dinner time.

Frischi Bike Days

Time to say goodbye to the enchanting upper valley at 1800 meters above sea level. But not before a final farewell to the single trails and some sophisticated technique between the fragrant pines, soaking up the contrast between the rugged mountains and the serene mountain lakes. These beautiful landscapes leave a lasting impression and will leave you energized long after your departure.
