Maremma Challenge: 500km of pure wonder in the heart of Tuscany

The Maremma Challenge is a 5-day e-MTB tour covering 500 km with 10,000 m elevation gain.

The circular route starts in the heart of the medieval city of Massa Marittima, continuing through the striking beech woods of Monte Amiata and up to Monte Labbro where you can enjoy unforgettable views over the entire Maremma region. You will cycle through medieval villages, woods, vineyards and olive groves, until you reach the extraordinary Città del Tufo archeological park and the ancient jewels of Pitigliano, Sorano and Sovana, erected on tuff spurs overlooking magnificent natural landscapes.

The second part of the route winds towards the sea, where you will encounter the evergreen Mediterranean scrub. Stop to admire the views from the Argentario Promontory over the Tuscan Archipelago, before crossing the Diaccia Botrona Nature Reserve – considered the largest surviving Italian wetlands – near the enchanting seaside village of Castiglione della Pescaia. To return to Massa Marittima and bring this beautiful tour to a close, you will cycle through the lush pine forest of Punta Ala before reaching the ‘musical beach’ of Cala Violina, which takes its name from the beach’s unique composition – tiny grains of quartz sand that create a melody at every step!

These and many other wonders await you during the Maremma Challenge.
