Athlete talk
How and when did you start skiing, how has it evolved ever since and what got you into freeskiing?
Like most Swiss kids, I started skiing early with my family. Probably around 3 years old. I don’t remember much from this time, but according to my siblings, I was pretty out of control and clueless...not much has changed! Since I am an alpinist and not a profi-skier,so going up is as important as coming down. The evolution in the material and the general level of skiing today has opened up so many possibilities and skiing is an extension of what I do as an alpinist. In the right conditions, it’s like the cherry on top of the cake
What does skiing mean to you personally?
Freedom, friendship, adventure and livelihood.
What were your 3 biggest accomplishments on hill and why?
Accomplishment number 1- I found the mountain (sounds easier said than done), Accomplishment number 2- I made it up the mountain and I’ve got my summit Accomplishment number 3- I made it back down again in one piece!
What aspect of skiing thrills you the most?
The freedom and the creativity
In what conditions and what terrain do enjoy riding the most?
Fresh, untracked powder
Any activities that aren’t ski related?
Mountaineering/ Basejumping/ skydiving/ surfing
How do you manage to combine family/ friends and job?
That is the million dollar question- with no magic answer. It’s not always easy, but it’s possible- and it’s all about teamwork. If you value each others’ happiness, are open-minded, flexible, and ready to make compromises it is possible to have it all. You just have to be clear about what is important to you.

Sunglasses, goggles, skis but my most favorite SCOTT product is my girlfriend’s lacy back protector
What SCOTT products are you using this year?
Skis, boots, sunnies, goggles
Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?
Healthy
What sponsors do you ride for besides SCOTT?
As I mentioned earlier- I am rare creature in the SCOTT clan- as a pro-alpinist most of my sponsors are not directly related to riding- Mammut, Pro Trek, Gore Tex and Victorinox
People you feel you need to thank.
Ooouuu... The list is so long and I would hate to accidentally leave anyone out. My sponsors over the years and the many people I have been privileged enough to learn from. But most importantly, my family and friends- without them, none of what I have accomplished would be worth as much.
What’s playing on your iPod right now?
Nothing yet, I still haven’t figured out how to use the damn thing!
