SEBASTIAN KIENLE
DISCONTINUED SERIES

DISCONTINUED – Sebastian Kienle

As Sebastian Kienle’s illustrious triathlon career draws to a close, he wants to make sure that he would be leaving behind a positive impact for years to come. That’s why we’ve partnered with Sebastian and his sponsors to create the “DISCONTINUED” series of Plasma 6’s. Sebastian has chosen several races that are either near and dear to him, or that he has always wanted to do but never could. For each race, Sebastian is partnering with a charity and will be auctioning off one-of-a-kind SCOTT Plasma 6 Triathlon bikes.

RACE #1 of the DISCONTINUED SERIES: IRONMAN NEW ZEALAND – MARCH 4th

Campaign Finished

For the first charity of the DISCONTINUED series, Sebastian chose WWF NZ.

About WWF NZ: WWF-New Zealand is working to protect precious marine species and their habitats through research, advocacy, and education.

Young people are key to building a future where people and nature live in harmony. By educating the next generation about the marine environment, we hope to inspire them to look after and nurture the ocean and all the animals that call it home, for theirs and future generations.

With our partners, WWF-New Zealand will deliver a dedicated programme to educate children about New Zealand marine species and what they can do to protect them. Delivered in schools across the country, the programme will provide children with solid foundational knowledge about the marine environment. It will also provide schools with additional resources for continued inquiry-based learning and access to follow-up sessions and questions.

Sebastian Kienle

“You will only protect what you know and what you love. Nature and Children are the future of our planet. I hope my son and all children of the world can grow up and live in a great nature. For me it is also important that it is a local project. Being able to see some of the most amazing marine wildlife myself by swimming in all kinds of waters I want to give children the chance to do the same. Learn. Love. Protect.”

- Sebastian Kienle

RACE #2 OF THE DISCONTINUED SERIES: CHALLENGE ROTH - JUNE 25TH

Campaign Finished

The vision of 'Stiftung Bildung' ("Foundation for Education") is to promote the best possible education for children and teenagers by improving the conditions for accompanying education of children and teenagers. Among other things, the Stiftung Bildung helps with:

  • implementation of educational projects and their publication
  • the non-material and financial support of sponsoring associations at schools and daycare centers in the preparation of project applications and procurement of funding.
  • motivating and involving volunteers in the work of the associations of nonprofit sponsoring associations of schools and daycare centers and their member organizations, (for example by providing information)
  • the establishment and operation of nonprofit support associations at schools and daycare centers (Kitas), (for example through press and public relations work.)
  • improving the framework conditions for their work by communicating with politically and socially relevant persons.
Sebastian Kienle

"The “Stiftung Bildung” tries to improve education for children. I was very fortunate as a kid to have very motivated teachers and parents. I was a very energetic kid but I had a lot of problems staying concentrated. Therefore I struggled a lot in some subjects. Later I went on and studied physics. But not every child is that fortunate. I think with a good education we can cure pretty much every other problem there is. But this needs more investment."

- Sebastian Kienle

THE bike

The print on the bike features a dictation. Sebi’s father tried to make it more interesting for him by letting him write something about bikes. In sebi’s words, “I still probably had 50 mistakes in 25 words. I remember how hard it was because I felt like I was stupid. But every child is different therefore we need a better education system, a better system needs more money!" Check below for a full spec list:

RACE #3 OF THE DISCONTINUED SERIES: NORSEMAN – AUGUST 5TH

Campaign Finished

For the third charity of the DISCONTINUED series, Sebastian chose Laureus.

About Laureus: Laureus Sport for Good currently supports more than 275 programs in over 50 countries that use the power of sport to transform lives. Founded in response to Nelson Mandela’s challenge, issued at the first Laureus World Sports Awards in Monaco in 2000, that “sport has the power to change the world”, the vison of the charity is to use sport as a powerful and cost-effective tool to help children and young people overcome violence, discrimination and disadvantage in their lives.

Sebastian Kienle

“Sport has the power to change the world. It definitely changed my world! And it would be great to see other kids get the same chance. For me Sport was always like a therapy. If I was sad or angry, sport helped me to find my balance. It impacted me and the people around me in so many positive ways.

The ‘Laureus’ foundation supports hundreds of projects that are linked to kids and sport worldwide and therefore was the best choice to do something globally.“

- Sebastian Kienle

THE bike

“I‘ve always loved to optimize my bikes. I worked on a garbage truck during summer holidays to be able to buy my first Scott CR1. This is probably to most fun bike I‘ve ever ridden. It is so light but so fast, stiff but comfortable. A huge shout out goes to Gustav alias „Dangerholm“ the god of bike tuners. He prepared the frame especially for Norseman. Norseman has quite some climbing but is still a fast course so aerodynamic, handling and weight is very important.“

- Sebastian Kienle

"When Sebi reached out to me with this project the goal was quite clear from the beginning - we needed to come up with something really lightweight and fast riding.

The cycling part of the incredibly tough Norseman triathlon features a lot more climbing than most other races, where a lighter bike could be beneficial. This is why we strayed away from the otherwise natural choice of a SCOTT Plasma and went with a Foil RC frameset. The Foil RC is also incredibly aerodynamic but a lot lighter, especially in the HMX SL version which features the lightest possible layup and best carbon fiber quality.

To truly make it as light as possible I carefully stripped it down to bare carbon before giving a very minimalistic, and therefore lightweight, paint job. While the main goal was very performance oriented, I still wanted the bike to pop and have a splash of color. So it's been partially painted in candy apple red with red metallic flakes on top, so when you see it in the sun the paint really comes alive and creates a nice contrast against the carbon fiber."

- Gustav Gullhom

RACE #4 OF THE DISCONTINUED SERIES: IRONMAN COZUMEL – NOVEMBER 19TH

For the fourth charity of the DISCONTINUED series, Sebastian chose the World Bicycle Relief charity organization.

About World Bicycle Relief: World Bicycle Relief is a global organization helping people in need realize their goals by providing a tool that will support them to access education, markets, health facilities and vital services they need to thrive. Equipped with a purpose-designed Buffalo Bicycle from World Bicycle Relief, individuals in low-income regions are a force for change, creating opportunities for themselves, their families and entire communities.

Since 2005 World Bicycle Relief has distributed more than 720,000 bicycles around the world to students, healthcare workers, entrepreneurs, and farmers. With reliable transportation, entire communities can access critical services like education, markets and clinics.

World Bicycle Relief’s goal is to distribute 1M bicycles by 2025, impacting the lives of more than 5M people through the Power of Bicycles! And we can help them get there!

World Bicycle Relief
Sebastian Kienle

“Mobility changes lifes, no mater if it is the access to education, to water or to connect with other people. A bicycle is probably the best invention humans ever made. It’s simple and genius. Bicycles mean freedom.

I just love the color that a bicycle brings to your life. I still remember the feeling of being able to ride a bike on my own. The wind that is blowing in my hair. I felt so free. And it also mirrors the great colors of the island of Cozumel."

- Sebastian Kienle

THE BIKE

“It’s just the perfect tool for the very fast course in Cozumel. You have all the hydration on board and you can stay comfortable in your aero position, even in strong crosswinds.

Cozumel is a small and very beautiful island in Mexico. The perfect place to end my career. It is a very fast course but the climate makes it very demanding. I won the race in 2017 and I wanted to come back there one day. I love the vibe there, it is a little bit like Hawaii.“

- Sebastian Kienle
