Janosch Wintermantel, a SCOTT ambassador who lives and breathes gravel, is just as passionate for lining up for the Gravel World Championship as for planning the perfect gravel event for others to attend.
Gravel events and races are the perfect place for meeting and connecting with equal enthusiasts in gravel and everything around it. Here, it doesn’t matter too much if you’re going all-in for the race or see the event as a getaway weekend to meet new people and share the gravel passion with other riders.
The number of Gravel events has rapidly increased and there’s surely an event matching each wish and need. It is a luxury for riders to pick and choose where in the world they want to go, and what type of gravel they want to experience. It’s just a booking away. However, for the team behind the event it’s a bit more to it, and without them we wouldn’t have these events to look forward to every year.
Janosch Wintermantel is the man behind three major gravel races. Together with his team, Janosch organizes: Sahara Gravel, Utopia Gravel, Octopus Gravel, as well as some bike-packing events. In this video, we’ll get to follow Janosch in the final preparations before the first edition of the Utopia Gravel in Baza, Spain.
Besides all planning, logistics, and work that goes into making an event happen, there’s also the joy of scouting the perfect route and trying every dead-end gravel road you can possibly find.
