Thibaut Pinot Made it Big
It has been a fantastic emotion, an unbelievable true moment of sport. Thibaut Pinot won the penultimate mountain stage on top of l’Alpe d’Huez wrapping up a magical day and a gorgeous Tour de France. Gorgeous because it was forged from pain, from misfortune as with the mechanical on the cobbles, and from patience. Pinot had no real result before amazing us with an outstanding 2nd place finish in Mende a few days back. True to his character, his undeniable desire to win, the leader of the FDJ team established himself on the legendary stage, resisting, in the end, the return of Nairo Quintana over 18 seconds.
This stage began with the breakaway of his teammate Alexandre Géniez, also wearer of SCOTT shoes, before being joined by a very strong Thibaut Pinot on the final climb to the Alpe d'Huez.
‘’This climb has been a lot of stress for a huge joy in the last 200 meters. During the whole 21 hairpins I was in the unknown but seeing the red car behind me 500 meters from the finish line, I was relieved. Finishing on the podium of the Tour and winning here, they are two very different joys but winning and raising my arms here is special, I will remember this for all time. It is beautiful, this victory is the most beautiful of my career. Finally, I will not change anything in this Tour de France because I gained experience and because I earned it here.’’
